When you look at me, what do you see?
Can you see that my father loved me?
In spite of the fact that
he could not support me,
In spite of the fact that
he rarely saw me,
In spite of the fact that
he was a junky.

When you look at me what do you see?
Can you see that my mother loved me?
In spite of the fact that
she abandoned me emotionally,
In spite of the fact that
she abandoned me physically,
In spite of the fact that
she stole my child from me literally.
What do you see, when you look at me?
Do you see the boot print
of my ex-husband in my face?
Do you see the broken bottle
he held to that same space?
Do you see me trying to leave?
Do you see me trying to grieve?
Do you see the bruises around my neck?
Do you see my life a wreck?
Do you know my wounded heart?
Do you know about that part
Deep, deep down on the inside
that when you look at me
you see...
LOVE,
FORGIVENESS,
FAITH,
LIFE,
HOPE,
PEACE,
and JOY!

If this woman that I've been describing
you're having difficulty recognizing,
it's probably because
she was a victim
where I am a victor,
and she felt pain
where I feel glee,
and it's probably because
she thought that no one loved her,
while I know
that JESUS
loves me.
